Live Tracker Setup
Before you can use your live trackers with TackTracker, there are two one-off setup tasks to perform:
- Configure the trackers
- Add the trackers to your Live Trackers list in your TackTracker Cloud account.
If you tracking from your mobile phone using the TackTracker Recorder app, these steps are not required.
See the page on live tracking with your phone for more information.
Your live trackers must be configured to send frequent location reports to the TackTracker Cloud server. If you are using the iPhone or iPad app, you may skip this step.
SIM Card
You must purchase a SIM card and plan for each tracker. Look for a long duration plan such as a 365 day pre-paid plan. Live tracking does not use much data
- roughly 1MB every 7 hours of use. For example, in Australia, a Vodafone $2 SIM plus $10 of credit on the 365 day pay as you go plan may last you a full year.
You will need to find out your Telecommunication vendor's Access Point Name (APN).
For example the APN for vodafone in Australia is "live.vodafone.com".
Here is a list of Australian APN's: http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/mobiles_apn
You must also activate the SIM before it can be used with your tracker. You may need to use a spare mobile phone to activate the SIM.
Configuration
Tracker configuration is a one-off task and is not difficult.
You will need to install the SIM, plug the tracker into your PC using the supplied USB cable and run the configuration software provided with the tracker.
The configuration process and parameters vary according to the type of tracker, as described below. The manufacturer software and instructions are for Windows only.

Disabling movement detection
The P99 has a feature to turn off tracking if no movement is detected. On a sailboat, this can unintentionally cause tracks to stop when winds are very light.
Fortunately, you can turn movement detection off with this special command:
The easiest way to send the command to the tracker is via a text message. The configuration change is remembered by the tracker, so the command only needs to be sent once.
